African Sun offers a relaxing atmosphere and a beautiful view of the Outeniqua mountains, it is a small holding where guests can walk through the rose garden or sit out in the garden under an umbrella and read while you are served with a cup of tea. We serve breakfast on the veranda weather permitting and evening meals on request. We have animals for the children which they can handle and eggs to be collected - a real treat. There is a strawberry farm in walking distance where you can pick or even hire a horse to ride. We serve a full South African breakfast, (dinners on request). We have 2 flats suitable for self catering - each with 2 bedrooms, a full bathroom, lounge and kitchen. The main room has a double bed the other 2 single beds. 3 units which have their own bathroom and open onto the verandah, these each have a TV, microwave kettle and toaster also crockery and cutlery. The units have either a double bed or 2 single beds. Rondavels (bed and breakfast basis) - Sleep 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children. The Forge: A combination of wow factor, rustic country elegance and romantic charm, has made The Forge at Oakhurst a top retreat for anyone looking for a little peace and quiet. This 150 year old stone cottage was one of the first building to be built at Oakhurst and today is the main bedroom, with thick stone walls and exposed timber beams. The living area wraps around the cottage and is made up of a dining area, equipped kitchen with gas stove and cosy lounge area. The entire side of the building can be opened up, by way of canvas roller blinds to maximise the spectacular Wilderness forest views from here. Sleeps two in a double bed, with two extra kiddies beds on a mezzanine in the loft. A central log fireplace takes the chill away during the Wilderness winters. The open-air shower and bathroom offer the same breathtaking views onto the forest fringe. Our Farm Cottages have been a part of Oakhurst for the past 30 years. Kween's Kaya, Awies Attic, Lenies Lair, Hans's Hollow and Nick's Nook are set along the edge of a section of forest, intersected with a gurgling stream that flows during the rainy periods. Each cottage is privately positioned and fully set up for self-catering, with a well equipped kitchen and cosy living area with wooden floors. The living area in turn opens out onto a large wooden deck and braai area. The Schoolyard: The long school building houses three of these units, namely Landon's Loft, Holly's Hangout and Anna's Apartment. The bathroom offers a full bath, basin, toilet and shower. Throughout the year there are many activities in Wilderness one can pursue. With the site being very central to a host of activities. Paragliding one can land on the sand in front of the cottage after launching from a world renown spot, The Map of Africa, which is from the hill behind the cottage. Kitesurfing ,surfing and fishing are literally 10 metres away and you are on the beach. During the whaling season whales frequent the seas around the Wilderness area and can often be found just off the beach in front of the cottage.

Terms & Conditions

  1. The property (you) must offer the 15% saving to all verified members
  2. Verification is done automatically at the time of an enquiry. It is at the property’s discretion whether to offer the saving for a telephonic enquiry. (As you have no means to verify the membership number, it is advisable to get them to do a formal enquiry so they can be verified).
  3. If the property is currently running a "Special" greater than 15% then the "Special" price will apply. (No further savings needs to be offered). EXCEPT in the case where the "Special" is lower than 15%. In that case the 15% will apply.
    Example: A property offering a 10% discount, must offer an additional 5% discount to valid members - so they get a total 15% saving.
  4. The property must offer valid members the saving all year round. (Properties that pick and chose in which seasons to participate run the risk of being removed from the programme completely. Allowing selective participation defeats the integrity of this initiative).
  5. The property must not inflate the price before the 15% is applied. Prices displayed should be the rack rate. (The official or advertised price of a room).
  6. The property must honour any bookings made while the property was participating as a $elect Stays property.
  7. The property must honour the agreement and the spirit in which the initiative is designed to benefit local tourism.
